Broadly speaking, your weight and and your figure are influenced by two groups of hormones: The thyroid hormones and the sex hormones, particularly estrogens. Estrogens are responsible for the natural female figure: They form bust, thighs, belly and backside, slim the waist and soften the skin. And: A high level of Estrogens reduces the appetite. DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) is another essential hormone- the body uses it to make numerous other hormones. DHEA scales down storage of excess calories as fat- instead, these calories are burnt. Over 40, Estrogens and DHEA levels are decreased, making it harder to lose weight permanently for women over 40. Thyroid hormones contribute to digestion and metabolism. We feel energetic and are in a positive mood if the thyroid gland works properly. Unfortunately, it is very easy to disturb the sensitive thyroid- and this will make the whole body. After menopause the hormone system changes, leading to change in the body. Subcutaneous fat cells fill up and increase their size- and unfortunately the normally stabilizing collagen is reduced as well.
